Wichita is a hub for high-quality health care in South Central Kansas and is continuously ranked high in the nation for it. Based on 21 key health-related statistics, Kansas placed 10th in the Morgan Quitno Press 2007 Healthiest State Rankings. 

The metro area is home to 17 acute care and free-standing specialty hospitals with approximately 3,100 licensed beds. Numerous clinics specializing in cardiovascular to spinal care provide comprehensive patient care and outpatient surgery. The expanding healthcare system in the area includes the most recent technology available in oncology, neonatal care and technology.

The Robert J. Dole Department of Veterans Affairs Medical and Regional Office Center is located in Wichita serving veterans in 59 counties of the state. The community is also home to the Kansas Health Foundation, an organization that strives to improve the health for all Kansans.

There are also over 50 nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The University of Kansas School of Medicine has a clinical program in Wichita where about 100 3rd and 4th year residents receive education and training.
